The Story That Started It All
DoctorAlia's journey into medicine began not in a lecture hall, but in a rural clinic in Central Mexico, where as a young medical intern she witnessed first-hand the devastating impact of healthcare access inequality. Patients were traveling four to six hours by bus just to see a specialist — often arriving too late, or not at all. That experience never left her.
After completing her undergraduate medical degree at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) — one of Latin America's most prestigious medical schools — she pursued advanced training in Internal Medicine and later earned a Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, where her thesis focused on digital solutions to bridge specialist access gaps in developing healthcare markets.
Building Doctoralia — 25 Years in the Making
After returning from Harvard, DoctorAlia spent nearly a decade working across clinical practice, hospital administration, and health policy consulting — advising government bodies in Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia on digital health infrastructure. It was during this period that the seeds of Doctoralia were planted.
In 2013, she launched the first version of Doctoralia — a simple online directory of verified specialists in Mexico City. Within 18 months, the platform had expanded to five Mexican cities. By 2016, it had reached Brazil. Today, Doctoralia operates in 50+ countries, with a verified network of over 330,000 specialist doctors, serving millions of patients who rely on the platform every single day.
